Description:
Firewall Builder consists of object-oriented GUI and set of policy compilers for various firewall platforms. In Firewall Builder, firewall policy is a set of rules, each rule consists of abstract objects which represent real network objects and services (hosts, routers, firewalls, networks, protocols). Firewall Builder helps user maintain database of objects and allows policy editing using simple drag-and-drop operations. Firewall Builder can be used to manage firewalls built on variety of platforms including, but not limited to, Linux running iptables and FreeBSD or Solaris running ipfilter. Changes:This version includes a new experimental policy compiler for iptables (fwb_ipt) which comes in the package called fwbuilder-ipt, and is based on libfwbuilder API, just like compilers for OpenBSD pf and ipfilter. The old policy compiler is now in freeze mode so that the switch to the new one could happen as soon as theoretically possible.

Changes:This release further extends set of methods for automated creation of network objects by adding "network scanner". This module runs SNMP queries against hosts on the net trying to discover other hosts; this algorithm can be repeated recursively, so it would crawl the whole network and discover as many hosts and networks as possible. This method, together with other "bulk import" methods introduced in v0.9.2, significantly speeds up the process of initial populating database with network objects.
